Why do my bed sheets, my pajamas, my blankets, etc. smell bad after I sleep in them a few times?

Friday, January 29th, 2010

like, I just changed into my PJ’s and they smell pretty bad
so do my bed sheets
and my blanket
but…why??

Washing and drying them.
Dont let them dry out all crumpled up you need to let the air at them. If Your allowing them to dry like this the soap powder and enzymes in the soap powder will deteriorate causing a smell. Put a perfumed fabric conditioner in the wash or better still buy a tumble dryer and put a fabric conditioner towel in the tumble dryer

Honest answers please: How often do you change your bed spreads, pillow cases, sheets, wash your blankets?

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

I would like to change them every other day but mostly I go for a week and change them. We do not let the dog sleep on our bed. He has his own bed beside my side of the bed and he sleeps with me but on the floor.

I think it you let your animals on the bed your should wash things more often.

I wash the bed pad and the blankets about once a month or perhaps more often

Do You Have Bed Bug Infestation And Not Know It?

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

For most individuals they never consider that when they return home from vacation they may be bringing something more than just souvenirs and fond memories. Bed bugs can easily make their way from one locale to another just by grabbing onto a persons clothing.

Most people have absolutely no idea what a bed bug is and how to identify when you have a problem with them. Bed bugs are difficult to see with the naked eye because they are so small. In fact, an adult bed bug is no more than about a quarter of an inch in length.

Bed bugs survive by eating off of warm blooded animals. That is why they so enjoy nestling into the warmth of bed sheets. Many people do not even realize that they have a problem with these small critters at first. It can take months of bites before they are aware that they are being eaten by these bugs each night.

One of the main reasons that it can take people some time to realize that they have a bed bug problem is that the bugs do not show themselves during daylight hours. They hide under floor boards or behind furniture until the lights go out. Once the individual is fast asleep the bugs make their way close to the sleeper and start to feed.

The bites of bed bugs closely resemble the bites that you might expect to get from something like a mosquito. A small, reddish bump may appear on the skin and in some cases it can produce a slight itching reaction as well.

If you do suspect that you have bed bugs you will need to put on your detective cap. There are several places to check to see if you do have this problem. One is right in your bed. Remove the blankets and thoroughly check the sheets. Look in any creases and under the pillows. While you are searching keep in mind that you may find evidence of the bed bugs but not the actual bugs. Bed bugs leave waste material that is either a dark brown or reddish color.

Getting rid of bed bugs can prove to be a challenge. The reason is that the bugs tend to lay eggs in discreet places. The first step you need to take is to throw out all bedding and consider replacing your mattress. After you have done this you need to thoroughly clean the room. Remove any clutter and vacuum all exposed areas. You should also remove any desk or dresser drawers and clean beneath and behind them.

Dealing with bed bugs can be difficult but it is certainly not impossible. Once you discover that you are sharing your home with these unwanted visitors take the necessary steps to rid yourself of them forever.

Do you refer to bed sheets and blankets as "the covers"?

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

If, in a short story, a sentence said, "She tossed the covers off and climbed out of bed," would you know the "covers" means her blankets? I’m from the south, and am wondering if "covers" is a southern thing. Do most people call it bedding, or would you get covers?

Also, do you know what crawlers are?

They’re vines. Would you have known that?
Thanks!

I am from the North. Sure, covers is fine. You would say to your child, "get under those covers Right Now" Not "get under the blanket and sheet Right now" And crawlers are just what they are, creeping vines, but maybe I knew that because I am a horticulturist.

Do you use a doona or bed-sheets and blankets?

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

I tried the doona once and it’s just not for me. I prefer sheets and blankets.

Yep that’s what I do also . Sheets and blankets , in winter I pile more blankets on and then gradually take them off as the warmer weather comes along.

How do you keep your bed sheets, blankets, and pillows smelling fresh and clean?

Friday, October 9th, 2009

I use a double sheet system. i put a sheet or a pillow case on then i put the ones i want to use on top. the first set keeps any soils from going into the bed or pillow, and then i have two layers of sheets to sniff! Also try using duvet covers. these are like pillow cases for blankets so the actual blanket never gets dirty.
Every 6 months I also wash all my bedding such as the pillows and blankets. Check each item for their washing instructions and don’t forget to throw some tennis balls into the dryer if you have down. Expect a full day of drying time so have spare blankets ready for that night, just in case.
