I know electric blankets are only supposed to be on top of you or you can break the wires.
You need to look for an electric mattress pad. Walmart has them for about $40, depending on the size.

The only heating pads I can find will not stay hot. I would like to purchase a pad and an electric blanket that were manufactured several years ago.. The type that you could put on a setting and it would get hot and remain that way. The most prevalent brand in stores today are Sunbeam and they are not satifactory for my needs.. Several years ago, they were great.
I know exactly what you are talking about. The manufacturers of heating pads and electric blankets have incorporated the ’smart’ features for consumer safety that will cut off after a while to prevent accidental burns and potential lawsuits. I do not think you can find any of the old type of pads or blankets now.

I have heard that electric blankets should not be kept on over night if your a woman as they can reduce fertility. That they should only be used to pre heat the bed. Is there any truth to this at all?
No it’s not true.

Is it below AU$100 or above AU$100?
What brand is the good one? Is it better to use electric blanket or small heater in the room or use both?
Thanks
you can purchase electric blankets at places like
Big W
K-Mart
Target
David Jones
Myer
the prices would depend if purchasing for a single bed, double bed or queen size bed
you could purchase under $100 easily
a small heater is very effective BUT when you get you light bill it will be very expensive to run
you can purchase items like hospital type blankets which are excellent for use in winter

I have a double bed, my boyfriend wants an electric blanket but I really don’t. Can you get electric blankets made to fit a double bed but only heats one side?
Will a single go on a double or are they like fitted sheets?
No, they are not fitted, and yes, you can get a single. But you can also get a double with dual control and keep your side turned off. There’s another solution, too. Heated matress pad. Instead of heat over you, it’s heat under you. Much more efficient and comfortable. Also comes dual controlled.

We are trying to save money this winter and I was wondering if it would be cheaper if we turn down the thermostat at night and used electric heating blankets in bed to stay warm or should we just turn up the thermostat and warm up the entire house and not use electric blankets? (We have oil for heat) Which way would save us the most money?
We would only be using one electric blanket since its just my husband and myself.
The average electric blanket is 200 watts, and makes 682 BTUs per hour. A US gallon of oil makes 130,000 BTUs, but with efficiency losses the net is about 104,000 BTUs. So, a gallon of oil is worth 152 hours of electric blanket use.
The typical residential furnace/boiler is rated at 150,000 BTUs, and so burns 1.15 gallons of oil per hour. Heating oil here on the east coast is going at about $2.08/gallon on ‘contract’. Electricity is $0.16/kwh.
The blanket uses $0.032/per hour. Oil is costing you $2.392 per hour. If you can save one gallon of oil per day by using the electric blanket for 8 hours, you will save approximately $2.14 per day.
Hope this helps.

What sort of mattress protector would you use for this purpose?
I live in Australia
Any recommendations for quality electric blanket and mattress protector?
although here in australia we have great standards there has been alot of reports of some of the electric blankets catching on fire because of faulty electrics and they did not meet our standards ,so i wouldn’t leave it on all night.sunbeam seems to be popular ,i would just turn it off at the plug before sleep to be safe .sorry not sure about a good mattress protector

and don’t say because of the water. its enclosed in a pad
Yes because of the water. The first and most important rule in plumbing is that eventually a gasket will leak. So you must be prepared. Maybe one in a million. You take the chance ?
