I plan on making a blanket for my best friend as a birthday blanket, I want to make a blanket that is a little bigger than the size of an average throw but would not like it to be bigger than the size of a twin blanket. What size do you think I should make it?
A standard twin blanket is 66×85"
throw blankets 50×60"

2 yards of fabric is 72" and you can buy it 54" wide,
so after sewing the hem it would be about 71×53"
A little larger than a typical throw and smaller than a twin,
so around the perfect size you were planning.

My sister was a HUGE fan of Barney growing up. She would like nothing more from me than a Barney baby blanket for her baby which she is due with soon. I have searched several stores and their sites and found NO barney fabric…How can I make a barney blanket without using the fabric with Barney already on it?
If you can find an image of Barney on something, then trace and color that image onto paper. You can make iron-on images by using a printer and iron-on paper from Office Depot (or Office Max, or Staples). Then iron the images onto whatever blanket material you want, and sew the edges of the blanket.

The ones where you tie the edges together.. how many yards of fabric should i get so i have a good-sized blanket that will cover my whole body and keep me warm in the winter?!
I would use 1.5 yards, maybe a little bigger, but it gets cumbersome to work with if it’s too big.

Soft, fuzzy, and plush, our silk fleece blankets are genuinely outstanding. Silk is a better temperature regulator than any other fabric. It is naturally hypoallergenic and maintains a relatively stable temperature even with drastic changes in room temperature, so you will never feel too warm or too cold. Furthermore, these throws have an elegant look to themselves. They are edged with charmeuse silk and they include stylish fringes. With its amazing texture and versatility we have no doubt that this blanket will become your new all around favorite! Size = 90″” x 90″”

The problem you are describing usually happens while drying. Try line drying or putting two new tennis balls into the dryer with the blanket, and the cycle on both the washer and dryer should be delicate.

I am trying to make a baby blanket, the kind that is a small square made with different colors and textures and has ribbons sewn on the ends. its more of a toy maybe. i would love to make one for my daughter but i do not know how although it seems like it would be somewhat simple. can someone please give me advice or offer a helpful website. thanks!
I think you’re wanting a "Taggy" or "Sensory" blanket. They’re very simple to make. Is this what you are talking about?
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=9504816
Start with two pieces of flannel, approximately 10 to 12 inch squares.
Next, cut pieces of ribbon about 6 inches long.
Lay out one piece of flannel, print side up. Make a loop out of your ribbon and pin it to the sides of your flannel where you want it to be. Making sure the loop part is to the inside of your fabric.
Next, lay your second piece of flannel on top of the other piece but put this piece print side down. Your two pieces of fabric should be print sides together, sandwiching the ribbon loops inside.
Pin the two pieces of flannel together and sew around them, using a 1/2 inch seam, leaving a small opening, for turning.
Turn your blanket right side out and press it. Make sure you press the open part to where the raw edge is up in the blanket. Now topstitch around the blanket, making sure your topstitching catches the fabric where you left the opening.
Press again…. Presto! You have a taggy blanket!!
Hope this helps!! Happy Sewing!!
