I’ve been knitting for maybe 8 months but am still something of a beginner. I’d like to knit a blanket in big chunky wool (Sindar Bigga most likely) to put on my bed so not a baby blanket. Any ideas where I can find a simple, free pattern for one or can someone explain how to do it?
Wow, have you checked out the patterns for afghans? You can make the afghan longer than the pattern call for. As far as the width you may not get what you want so make 2 – - use this pattern p1 k1 p1. Then make the rest of the row in multipuls of two. k1 p1 across to edge k1 p1 Next row p2 then purl on knit and knit on purl till the end the p2. Repeat these two rows until it is the length of the afghan and weave one one each end. Hope this helps, If i can help you any further let me know.

following a pattern from a book. I know the fan stitch and thougth it would make a cute baby blanket for my cousin who is expecting. I’m using size 8 needles. Thanks.
I’m sorry I don’t think I made myself clear, I mean that I am following the fan stitch from a book but I need to know how many I should cast on to make it the right length. Thanks
I have a pattern for this on my site but it uses size 11 needles.
http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/easter-afghan.html
But the stitch count for babies is 110
I love using the size 11s because it makes it nice and lacy.
But I also have another version on that page that uses size 8’s and she suggests casting on 120 sts. Hope this helps.

Knitting a baby blanket, which is usually about 2 feet by 3 feet, requires finding a type of yarn that is machine washable and avoiding yarns with fibers that shed, such as mohair, angora and alpaca. Knit a baby-friendly blanket using decorative stitches with information from an advanced knitter in this free video on knitting.

This knit baby blanket is currently light pink and I want to dye it to a nice pale light blue. What is the easiest way to do this using the least amount of chemicals?
If you overdye the blanket light blue, it’ll come out lavender. And if it’s acrylic, it won’t take the dye at all.
You’re better off finding another blanket, knitting one, or having it made for you.

What is an easy way to make a baby blanket?
Crocheting is pretty easy, most people think it’s easier than knitting. Then you just need to buy some soft yarn ("baby yarn") and off you go!

My mother in law makes really neat blankets and I’ve asked her for ideas for my project. While I do appreciate her motives, I wanted to make the blanket myself (she insisted she just make it for me).
I would love some links showing me some neutral baby blanket ideas. My friend is waiting until birth to find out the sex of the baby.
Oh, and yes, I will have access to my mother in law’s sewing machine.
I’m not sure if you’re looking for sewing, knitting or crochet, but if you check out www.favecrafts.com you can look under any of those sections at the baby stuff. There are really neat baby blankets under knitting and crochet. Good luck!
