How to handle a shedding blanket?

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

I have a beautiful red throw blanket. I am not quite sure of the material – it is similar to a wool. It wasn’t very expensive, but it is my favorite. Unfortunately, it sheds everywhere. On the sofa, on the carpet, on my clothing. Is there a way to remove any excess "fluff" to avoid any shedding? Or is this just the way the blanket is?

I would check the washing instructions on the label. A lot of times if you just wash and dry it a time or two, that will get rid of all those fluffies that are coming off of it.

If that solution doesn’t work for you, take it outside and shake the heck out of it, maybe even beat it with a broom, like you would a rug.

I have an idea for putting information on a fleece blanket. Who would I contact to get this done?

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

The information would be like you see blankets with patterns on them, not sewn on but actually imprinted in the blanket. I just don’t know how or who to contact to accomplish the project. Could a silk screener do something like I have in mind? Any help would be appreciated

You can buy iron on transfers that you put through your inkjet computer. You can design it any way you want. You can buy them from most office supply stores in their specialty computer paper section.

Silk screeners might be cost prohibitive unless you are making a lot of them.

How much would you pay for a handmade baby blanket?

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

I crochet baby blankets and I am thinking about trying to sell them online. How much would you be willing to pay for a handmade item such as this? I’m pretty talented and can do a wide variety of patterns, many that I have made up myself. I have sold many of my blankets in the past, some baby size and some queen size. They have sold for anywhere from $10.00 to $50.00. What do you think?

Depending on the size, I wouldn’t try to sell one for more than $25. I have seen a few get sold on ebay, but I think it’s few and far between compared to the ones that are actually posted.

We have a local store here where people can rent a booth and sell their handmade items. I have seen many handmade baby blankets, but they range in price from about $25 to over $100. I saw an afghan that was about $35 and it literally took months to sell. I think a lot of people look at stuff like that and don’t want to pay someone else for their time to make it when a lot of them think they can do it themselves (but they don’t).

if im 5ft 6in an i want a blanket longer then me what size do I get I want a throw Blanket !! I see a lot ?

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

50×60 is that longer then myself ??? if not what size would be longer then me !

A queen size throw blanket should be a good size for you. You could always go for a king just to have plenty of extra blanket. We bought one at Target that is amazingly soft! I fell in love the second I touched it. It comes in twin, full, queen, and king with a variety of colors. It’s part of their "Home" line, and is available in stores (I haven’t seen it online). The price was just down to $29.99 last week, and we paid $39.99 about a month before that!

what does my dream mean? a baby all covered in blankets in bed, hot, alive?

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

I had a strange dream couple of nights ago. There was a baby in my bed, I think, all covered up with blankets and sheets. I saw there was something under the covers and found this baby sleeping there. I took him, in my arms, I think it was a boy, afraid as I thought he might have been choking or dead, he was not. he was all hot, perspiring, just asleep.
I am 47 and I have children.

I’ll have a random guess…

The baby could mean a few things. Either;

1. The baby represents your inner child or a stage in your life in the past. Obviously there has been struggling; whether you’ve struggled a lot or haven’t. Your present self has finally lifted this past up. You’ve come to accept it and move on in your life. Your past-life is now at peace and slowly cooling down. :]

2. The baby represents a new friendship. Maybe you were fighting with someone before but now you’ve lifted up that friendship and everything has restored to a near-normal state. All the previous feuds are cooling down. =]

I dunno. XD

How to Achieve the Most Popular Trend in Interior Design – the Eclectic Look

Revamping Your Home

January and February are usually gloomy months. New Year festivities have long past and winter feels like it’s here to stay forever! Use all this time spent indoors to take a good look at your home and its decor. Why don’t you start de-cluttering your surroundings, getting rid of all those useless things you have accumulated in 2008 and turning your house into a fashionable eclectic home?

Whether it’s just a lick of paint or a full house make over, here are some interior design tips that can come very handy.

These days it’s a lot more fashionable to go for an eclectic look rather than opting for a particular style. Achieving an eclectic look is not that easy, though. It’s not about throwing different items from a variety of styles together. It takes consideration, thought and care to achieve, although the result should look quite the opposite: as if it all just casually came together. It’s a smart and clever mixture of styles: vintage, contemporary, retro, rococo, bohemian and many more!

In order to start the revamp, it’s advisable to focus on one particular room, or even on one particular side or corner of the room. And it’s important to have a specific aim in what you want to create, rather than improvising as you progress.

For example, a great reading corner could be achieved with a vintage French armchair, a retro chrome floor lamp, and a modern mirrored side table to lay your book. A great tip: throw a faux-fur blanket casually over the back of the armchair and leave your favorite book on the side table.

Combining modern, vintage and retro looks together will work here, as you are trying to create something specific, as opposed to randomly scattering furniture items and accessories around the room. This reading corner could possibly change the look of the whole room!

Another way to work on the eclectic look is mixing painted furniture, such as white country style furniture, and warm wood tones as well as rich upholstered items, like a modern Chesterfield sofa upholstered in a lavish black velvet fabric. The painted furniture pieces will provide a casual look, while the rich velvet sofa will bring warmth and comfort.

Interior designers like mixing dark and light colours, vintage and contemporary – like putting an antique mahogany chest of drawers with a wicker piece. It all needs to look airy and simple, not too fussy. Simplicity is the key!

A charming looking bedroom may consist of an antique white Rococo bed, a “shabby chic” French armoire, two contemporary mirrored nightstands, and a lovely antique chest of drawers. Add some gorgeous cushions and silk sheets for the bed, a Venetian mirror for the wall, and two modern chrome bedside lamps with oversized shades, and you will have achieved a perfect eclectic look, yet inviting and romantic.

We hope this article will inspire you to have a good look at your house and to make a few simple and stylish changes so that you can enjoy your home even more in 2009.

Need to find some fleece fabric to make a tie blanket that has the print of the Detroit Red Wings on it?

Friday, October 16th, 2009

need to make my son a fleece blanket the kind you can tie together and have to fine some fleece with the Detriot Red Wings on it. None of our local fabric stores carry it.

Hancock’s fabrics carries a lot of team fabrics in cotton and fleece. Although, I’m not sure about hockey teams. Are you sure it’s even available (printed)? Good luck.

Is it a bad idea to use a wool blend yarn for a baby blanket?

Friday, October 16th, 2009

Yes, another baby blanket question! :-p

I was considering using Wool-Ease Chunky, which is I think a 50/50 blend of wool and acrylic. A friend of mine told me no wool anything because it would be too scratchy, but I was wanting more opinions.

You sound like a very thoughtful person to ask this question. The problem with wool and even some acrylics is they have fine hairs that become airborne and then the baby breathes them in and can choke or have difficulty breathing. Look for yarns that have been designed especially for babies.
Here is a link below for marymaxim just to give you an idea of what is available. They have been in business since 1959,so they are up on the latest trends. also, you can check the sizes of the baby afghans while you are at it as I happened to notice you had another question re: this. Make sure you get something that can be washed and dried a lot. good luck!

Does anyone know where I can find a free pattern and directions for a crochet prayer afghan or throw blanket?

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

Lion Brand’s site had a free prayer shawl pattern. It uses four skeins of homespun. Sounds like a lot, but it works up pretty quickly.

lionbrandyarn.com

Update: I used Lion Brand’s "pattern finder" and searched for "prayer afghan" and a free pattern did come up.

How many stitches in width do I need to knit a baby blanket on a 14" needle?

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

I have about 170 stitches on a 14" knitting needle. Do I need any more to make a decent width for a baby blanket? How long in width may it be after I am finished knitting and it is removed from the needle?

It will depend on the thickness of your yarn and the gauge of the needle although it sounds a lot of stitches..

I suggest you look at patterns on the following sites to get a better idea of size as most of them have pictures:

http://www.knittingonthenet.com/babyblankets.htm

Hope this helps. Good luck.
